On the sidelines of the event here on Monday, Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) Chairman Sushil Chandra told reporters that Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) will not have to give details of their bank accounts held outside the country while filing their income tax returns, provided they are not seeking refunds.

That column in the income tax returns (ITRs), he said, is to be filed in "only one condition, that is, if they (NRIs) are seeking a refund."

In these cases, protection cases were conceded for both the products.

Invoke Goonda Act against Sakshi Maharaj: Lalu

PATNA: RJD chief Lalu Prasad on Sunday said BJP's Unnao MP Sakshi Maharaj should be sent to jail by invoking provisions of the Goonda Act against him.

"Sakshi Maharaj is not a saint. He should be sent to jail under the Goonda Act," Lalu said while reacting over the MP's recent controversial statement in which he blamed a particular community for rise in population.

RJD chief also said that some people in the country were continuously issuing controversial statements with an aim to disturb cohesive environment and Sakshi Maharaj is one of them.

Addressing a public meeting at Meerut in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh on Friday, Sakshi had said, "This population rise in not because of the Hindus. Population has risen due to those who support the concept of four wives and 40 children."

Clarifying his remarks, Sakshi Maharaj later denied seeking vote in the name of religion. "It was a meeting of sadhus where political activists were not present. I did not seek vote during my speech."

Donald Trump arrives in Washington to lay claim to White House

WASHINGTON: Donald Trump jetted into the US capital on Thursday on the eve of the most consequential moment of his life, his inauguration as the nation's 45th president and the setting of a four-year course of American political reform.

The Republican billionaire's arrival caps an extraordinary and improbable run for the White House that, once he takes the reins from President Barack Obama at noon Friday, will launch the United States into new and uncharted waters.

"The journey begins and I will be working and fighting very hard to make it a great journey for the American people," Trump, a political novice, real estate magnate and former reality television star, tweeted before leaving Trump Tower, his Manhattan home.

The 70-year-old leader-in-waiting traveled aboard an official government jet to a military base near the capital with his wife Melania.

They and several relatives headed into the city, where Trump began attending pre-inaugural festivities that have become traditions for presidents-elect.

"It is a momentous day before a historic day," said Vice President-elect Mike Pence, as Washington put its finishing touches on the downtown area where hundreds of thousands of Americans will congregate for Trump's inauguration.

Albany charter school rally to attract hundreds of families demanding expanded funding, removal of location cap

Hundreds of city charter school families will rally in Albany Wednesday to urge lawmakers to boost charter school funding and kill a longstanding legislative limit on the number of charter schools.

Republican State Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan will be among the speakers at the annual event organized by charter school lobbying group Families for Excellent Schools, which will take place at the Legislative Office Building.

Families for Excellent Schools CEO Jeremiah Kittredge promised that proponents of the privately-run, publicly-funded schools will make a ruckus.

“Parents are leading the charge in Albany,” said Kittredge. “They’re some of New York’s fiercest activists, and they’ll be making an impassioned case for their children's right to equal funding.”

This year the leaders of the charter school sector are asking for an increase in facilities funding for charter schools, from roughly 20% of typical district per-pupil funding to roughly 30% of district per-pupil funding.
